I find Smuttynose to be sort of hit and miss - hit with the label and miss with the beer. Ok, that's a little harsh. I do like some Smuttynose beers. This was not one of them. I can't quite put my finger on it, maybe it was a funny bitter taste? Or maybe I've just had IPAs that I like better. I always want to like it more than I actually do, so maybe I put too much pressure on Smuttynose to perform. I won't count them out yet.
Ooh - this reminds me that I had the Smuttynose Star Island Single and really enjoyed it. You should try it. Also, it has a mermaid on the label.
