About six years ago, I started collecting labels and/or caps from ales and lagers that I sampled during my travels. When I go to a new city, I try to visit the local microbreweries and, if possible, take a tour. When people come to visit, they bring new beer for me to try. I am not a home brewer, just a consumer. These are my observations about the ales and lagers that I have sampled.

Road Slush!
This is an oatmeal stout from New Glarus. It is brown in color, but when held up to the light, it is actually reddish brown. It doesn't pour with a thick head or leave a lot of lace on the glass, but it has a nice full-bodied taste with a hint of chocolate. I wish it had a little more oatmeal taste, but the hint of chocolate makes up for it.
I started experimenting with microbrews about ten years ago. Before that, I thought that staying away from the macrobrews meant that I appreciated beer. I was wrong. I started trying stouts before moving on to doppelbocks, wheat ales, witbiers, Belgian tripels, farmhouse ales and sour ales. I am not much of an IPA fan, but my appreciation of hops is maturing. I am not an expert, I just know what I like, or, more accurately, what I don't like. I hope you find this informative, but I would settle for entertaining.
